With his injured and dented sculptures Marcus de Bruijn (1978) explores his ideas about ‘being’ in the 21st century. In his art he experiments with a great variety of materials which he preferably leaves unpainted and raw. How does an object respond when it is subject to significant change? It is no problem if damage, loss or imperfection can be seen as it is part of being and proof of the transformation one has made.
In his installations Marcus adds new elements to public space or nature which leads to a new pop-up environment. He observes the environment responding to the newly introduced elements and vice versa he studies fhe influence of these new surroundings on the behaviour of the objects. What has changed? What consequences are there to be seen? You are invited to observe with him. It’s all about change.
